Fall and Winter Dessert Ideas for Your Intimate Wedding
The weather is starting to change which means cozier times are ahead. With chillier evenings on the horizon, lots of fun dessert ideas have popped into my head. Whether you’re searching for an alternative to cake, or just want to give your guests some additional choices, you’ve come to the right spot! I’m rounding up some super fun and unique dessert ideas for your intimate wedding. Aside from giving you inspiration, you’ll see that local companies are linked throughout this post so you don’t have to go down the black hole of internet searching!
Before we get to the list, here are a few reasons to break from tradition and skip the cake:
You simply aren’t cake people. That’s reason enough! If you two don’t enjoy cake, no one says you have to spend the money on it. There are plenty of other dessert set ups that are just as photo worthy.
You want more variety. Some people want to give their guests a sampling of several desserts, instead of just a slice of cake. Of course, if you have the budget, you can do this in addition to cake!
You want a safer option. During the times of covid, lots of couples are feeling like having a cake sit out, cut and served just doesn’t feel right. There are other options that can be displayed more individually or even pre-boxed up for guests to grab and go.
You want something seasonal. If your wedding is seasonally themed, dessert can be a great way to give a playful nod to the current weather.
Now you can scroll for photos and ideas for alternative dessert ideas for your New York wedding.
Pie
Of course pie can be great for any season depending on the filling, but since we’re talking colder months, think about pumpkin, sweet potato, pecan and apple.
Little Pie Company makes all of their pies from scratch right in the heart of NYC.
Cheesecake
There is something so cozy and comforting about cheesecake, not to mention it feels very “New York”.
Two Little Red Hens has a pumpkin cheesecake that is only available in the fall, so you know your guests will be getting a unique treat!
Waffles
A warm waffle with all the works is not something you see too often at weddings, but totally reminds me of walking around NYC in the winter.
Sweet Bakes Cafe has a super fun waffle cart they’re launching this season.
Coffee & Hot Chocolate
I love this option for brunch time or afternoon weddings. Pair with something light like cookies and really focus on artisanal beverages!
The Espresso Guys offer a mobile cart with a full menu of espresso drinks (including hot cocoa)!
Doughnuts
Because doughnuts can be filling and heavy, I think they’re well suited to the colder months. Choose seasonal options like apple cider doughnuts for fall or white frosted for winter.
The Doughnuttery has several different option for events from on-site doughnut making to mini doughnuts bagged to go.
Cupcakes
While cupcakes certainly aren’t a novelty at weddings anymore, I want to mention them because they’re incredibly easy to customize and box up. You’re also likely to be able to pick several different flavors.
Me3 Bakery in Hudson Valley treats their cake and cupcakes like art (but they’re delicious too), so you’ll be able to get really creative for the season.
Custom Chocolates
Warm weather isn’t super conducive to serving chocolate, but you don’t have to worry about that in the winter! Get creative with assorted truffles or local chocolate bars. This is a great idea for couples who want guests to be able to take dessert on their way out.
Noteworthy Chocolates offers laser engraved chocolates that come in all different shapes and sizes.
Dessert Cocktails
If you’re more of an aperitif person, think about serving dessert cocktails that have seasonal components.
Cocktails in Motion brings the expertise of two NYC mixologists to your wedding so that you can offer guests a truly special cocktail experience.
I hope this post helps bring some sweetness to your wedding!
